Relay for Life June 12, 2009
The Park Place Senioritas have become the Alavida Senioritas, now that more of our homes are open and the team members don't all come from Park Place.
We are so proud to announce that we exceeded our fundraising goal by $1600, raising a grand total of $7658.45! Many thanks to our residents who have been so generous in their support and to all those whose pledges led to the goal! Tricia Howard, our Hospitality Manager, has once again led the team with her dedication and energy.
This year we had the most favourable weather conditions in all the years that we have done the Relay. It was damp and chilly in the middle of the night, but there were no monsoons or hurricanes to dampen our spirits. Hoping for a good evening again next year.

Art and Craft Exhibit
The Art and Craft Exhibit took place on Friday May 29th and Saturday May 30th at Park Place Retirement Residence. The exhibit featured pieces by our very own residents and was a fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
The residents and Karen in the Recreation Department worked very hard to organize this exhibit and they had some really amazing pieces on display.
First Annual Chili Chow Down Challenge.
On April 22nd, we staged an event that challenged our chefs and at the same time supported the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event.
At Park Place we have been participating in the Relay for Life since 2004 and we seem to have been plagued most years by rain, cold and high winds. This could not dampen our spirits. Tricia Howard, our Hospitality Manager has been the driving force behind our efforts, as this is a worthy charity event for a cause that is near to her heart.
We issued a “Chili Chow Down” Challenge to Retirement homes west of the Rideau Canal to enter our contest to see who had the ultimate chili recipe. Participating homes were Park Place, Ravines, Central Park Lodge, Riverpark Place, Waterside Retirement Community, Palisades and the Park Place Senioritas.
The Winner was Central Park Lodge! Thank you to our judges Trevor Lewis, Jack Astors Bar and Grill Kanata, Chris Hume Banfield Seguin, Georgia Morissette our Yoga Instructor and Dave Chapin CJOH TV.

Check out our invitation!

The Park Place Senioritas team participated in the Relay for Life held June 13, 2008 at the Nepean Sportsplex. Led by our fearless captain, Tricia Howard, o is the whHospitality Manager, we raised over $6,000 this year bettering last year's fundraising by $2,000!

All departments were represented on the team and maintained their good spirits throughout the night despite thunder, lightening and rain.
Theme Days
Tropical Luau February 2009
You can see snow out the windows behind the entertainers, but the Ukulele Ladies did a great job of warming up our hearts on a February day. Some of us even learned a few Hawaiian dance steps before enjoying a themed buffet dinner.
Medieval Magic April 2008
The dining room in our retirement residence was transformed to a medieval theme for this event. We even had our own knight in shining armor! Featured entertainment was a harp and recorder duo whose sweet sounds provided a gentle background for the evening. Lots of great food was available for residents and guests.
Mardi Gras Soiree February 2008
The Gray Jazz Band brought the sounds and jazz of New Orleans to Park Place for our Mardi Gras Soiree. We were all decked out in the traditional Mardi Gras colours of green, purple and gold and as you can see from the picture, the residents really got into the spirit.
Spooky Halloween Party
The ghosts and ghouls were out and about at our Halloween Party and Open House. Residents and staff got into the swing of things with pumpkin carving, an interdepartmental decoration contest and lots of interesting costumes. All the Managers dressed as pirates this year. Take a look.
50's Theme Day June 2007
This was an exceptionally succesful theme day! Shawn Berry, a well-known local Elvis impesonator, had the place rocking! We were up and on our feet dancing and carrying on. Staff was decked out in 50's style clothing for the day, including poodle skirts and peddle pushers. Root beer floats, milkshakes and barbecued burgers and dogs were the order of the day. Check our our pictures.
Each month, Park Place Residents and guests enjoy a special theme day, which features special menus for the day as well as afternoon entertainment and an Open House for those interested in touring our residence./P>
